Audi Q6 e-tron Launch Edition – First Drive (2025)

Audi has launched its fully electrified five-door Q6 e-tron in both traditional SUV guise along with a sleeker Sportback variant and they both look jaw-droppingly good.

Customers can select from trim levels called Sport, S-Line, Edition 1, plus a limited-run Launch Edition which sits at the top of the line-up. And with prices starting from £60,740, would-be buyers also need to choose whether they want rear or dual motor quattro all-wheel drive.

Finally, the Q6 e-tron which slots in neatly between the Q4 and Q8, is offered with two battery sizes. The 83kWh unit can deliver up to 326 miles on a single charge, while the larger 100kWh battery increases that range to 392 miles.

We opted for the Q6 e-tron Launch Edition with the larger battery pack and quattro AWD for our test costing £86,480. With 388PS and a whopping 580Nm of torque, the family-sized SUV is swift out the starting blocks sprinting from 0-62mph in a very quick 5.9 seconds and onto a top speed that is limited to 130mph. This version with all the bells and whistles, including larger wheels, could achieve a WLTP-tested 359 miles between charges.

Visually the car boasts a very strong road presence thanks to an athletic stance with sculpted, muscular curves complemented by dark-tinted rear windows. There are split-level Matrix headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a full width rear light bar linking the digital tail lamps, a large single-frame grille, red brake calipers, eye-catching Ascari Blue paintwork and striking alloy wheels.

Move inside and you cannot fail to be impressed by the premium-styled cockpit with high-end fixtures and fittings throughout, along with plenty of S-line badging. The quilted fine Nappa leather seats offer plenty of support and are power adjustable. These, along with the leather-wrapped steering wheel, can also be heated against the winter chill.

Dominating the dashboard is a sleek, curved 14.4-inch infotainment screen that merges seamlessly into a 11.9-inch driver display behind the wheel. Additionally, the front seat passenger gets their very own 10.9-inch touchscreen so they don’t feel left out.

While physical controls are few and far between, the interface is beautifully intuitive and connecting a smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto takes a matter of seconds to set up.

On-board tech is generous too on this feature-rich, range-topping model and includes a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, sat nav, DAB radio, a head-up display and plenty more besides.

When it comes to performance, the Q6 e-tron delivers on all counts. It’s composed on motorways and reaches national speed limits in the blink of an eye, then also demonstrates exceptional balance and grip when faced with twisting country lanes. The acceleration through the single speed transmission is both smooth and responsive, and drive modes called Individual, Dynamic, Comfort, Efficiency and Off-Road alter the dynamics of the vehicle allowing the driver to tailor the handling to the type of road and their mood.

There is a B mode which increases the strength of the regenerative braking, while steering wheel mounted paddles help you fine tune this even further with single-pedal driving a possibility – a function that helps make light work of otherwise tedious stop-and-go city driving.

Refinement levels also impress with a beautifully hushed cabin and the ride comfort aided by the highly effective adaptive air suspension system. And special mention to the impressive driver visibility thanks to large windows and the elevated seating position.

So, the Q6 e-tron ticks all the right boxes when it comes to styling, on-board tech and performance, but how does it fare for practicality? The answer is very well indeed. The vehicle stretches 4.771mm in length and is 2,193mm across which results in a spacious cabin with bundles of room for five occupants. That said; three adults in the back may find it a little too snug, but it’s perfect for a trio of youngsters.

The boot is accessed via a powered tailgate and can swallow 526 litres of luggage, a capacity that increases to 1,529 litres with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats lowered. And, in addition, pop the bonnet and there is a further 64 litres of storage space which is ideal for all the charging cables.

With family breaks in mind, the Q6 e-tron can tow a trailer or caravan weighing up to 2.4 tonnes and charging is rapid too with a 10-80 per cent battery boost achieved in just 21 minutes via a 270kW fast charger. If you’re looking for a more cost-effective way to boost the battery levels, an 11kW home wallbox will see a zero to 100 per cent charge in about 10 hours.

All in all, the Audi Q6 e-tron impresses on all fronts, offering a winning combination of cutting edge technology, plenty of kerb appeal, refined handling and dynamics, along with an impressive driving range on a single charge.

It’s the first vehicle to be built on Audi’s all-new Premium Platform Electric architecture that was co-developed with Porsche, and it signals an exciting new era for Audi’s future electric models.
