The first pictures of the all-new fifth generation Corsa have been released by Vauxhall and it’s guaranteed to attract plenty of attention.

Featuring a new range of higher efficiency petrol and diesel powertrains, new Corsa will deliver reduced fuel consumption. In addition, every new model will emit less CO2 than the most efficient versions of the Corsa currently available.

At entry level, there is a 1.2-litre 75ps petrol unit and a three-cylinder, direct-injection turbocharged 1.2-litre 100ps all-aluminium engine. The two petrol engines are joined by a 1.5-litre diesel with 100ps and maximum torque of 250Nm. These will be paired to a five or six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed, lightweight automatic transmission.

On the EV-powered front, customers can opt for the all-new Corsa-e. Thanks to the common modular platform on which the Corsa is built, various powertrains can be produced on a single line.

The new car offers a number of assistance systems, such as front collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, intelligent speed control and limiter plus traffic sign recognition.

There is also a range of new infotainment systems made up of Multimedia Radio, Multimedia Navi with 7.0-inch colour touchscreen and the top-of-the-line Multimedia Navi Pro with 10.0-inch colour touchscreen.

There is navigation with real-time traffic information, plus a direct link to breakdown assistance and emergency service call.

Vauxhall’s fifth generation Corsa has achieved a significant weight loss with the new model weighing in from 980kg, which is a reduction of up to 108kg compared to the outgoing model.

Despite losing around 10 per cent of its weight, the Corsa retains similar dimensions to the outgoing model and comes fitted with five doors as standard.

One feature certainly worth mentioning is the lighting. The Corsa will be the first car in its class to feature adaptive, glare-free full-LED headlights. Previously seen on Astra and Insignia models, Vauxhall’s lighting called IntelliLux LED Matrix is technology usually only found in premium cars.
