Jaguar adds to F-Type appeal

January 14, 2017

Jaguar’s beautifully-styled and highly-desirable F-Type sports car, launched back in 2012, has firmly established itself as the best-selling sports car in its class in its home market and around the world.

Now the latest versions, which will go on sale in the next few months, really up the ante with exterior and interior design upgrades and high-tech infotainment kit, including an onboard camera GoPro system.

There is more driver-focused technology and a broader model range than previously offered, comprising 22 derivatives from the purist appeal of the rear-wheel drive, 340bhp F-Type to the 200mph, all-wheel drive F-Type SVR – Jaguar’s all-weather supercar.

Enhancements for the latest model include a new front end which becomes clearer and more powerful with LED headlights adding a technological edge. Inside, lightweight slimline seats offer extra style plus more room. There’s also a choice of new interior finishes and materials to select from plus all models now feature a satin chrome finish on the engine-start button and gearshift paddles.

To mark the introduction of the new F-Type range Jaguar has developed an exclusive 400 Sport launch edition. It is being offered globally but for one model year only. The 400 Sport features an uprated version of the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with maximum power increased from 380bhp to 400bhp.

Additional 400 Sport branding is applied to the flat-bottomed steering wheel, black brushed aluminium centre console finisher and the sill tread plates. Anodised aluminium gearshift paddles are another highlight of the cockpit.

The latest F-Types come with a state-of-the-art Touch Pro connectivity and navigation system for the first time, bringing high levels of in-car technology, from navigation that can tell your friends when you’ll arrive to a Spotify app that can recommend playlists and a new ReRun app developed in collaboration with action camera specialists GoPro.

The ReRun app can record images of the car in action and overlay them with onboard data including speed and G-force readouts for instant viewing.

Ian Callum, Jaguar director of design, said: “Great sports car design is about proportion and purity. The most challenging element of the process for designers is to focus on and maintain an exciting silhouette that promises performance.

“For the 2018 model year F-TYPE, we looked at how we could fine-tune key details to deliver even more clarity of purpose in the overall design – for the driver, the passenger and onlookers.”

Prices for the latest F-Type start at £51,450 and go up to £110,000 for the F-Type SVR Coupe and Convertible.
