Mazda freshens up its MX-5 sports car
September 3, 2026
Mazda’s beloved two-seater sports car, the MX-5, is receiving some updates to its model line-up to keep it looking fresh.

The 2.0-litre 181bhp Skyacti-G engine has been dropped, while the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G engine has been revised, now packing 134bhp and 155Nm of torque.
The updated MX-5 line-up will consist of eight models, though Homura and Homura Plus grades have now been added to the mix. These trims are marked out by their 16-inch black Rays alloy wheels, red Brembo brake discs and callipers and black door mirrors. Inside, these two models receive Recaro sports seats, black air vent surrounds and air conditioning dials.
To aid driving engagement, the new Homura and Homura Plus models gain Bilstein suspension and a front strut brace to stiffen the chassis; improving handling and driveability, while there is a new shade of Zinc Green metallic now available as an additional extra.
Safety kit has improved too, with all cars now coming with a driver monitoring system, while Homura Plus cars are equipped with adaptive LED headlights, a rear view camera and smart brake support, which detect when a vehicle or pedestrian is approaching when the vehicle is reversing.
Full prices and specifications for the revised Mazda MX-5 range will be revealed later this year, while the car is anticipated to go on sale at the beginning of next year.
