New Grand Cherokee breaks cover in US
January 13, 2021
Almost 30 years ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee began its legacy as the most awarded SUV in history. And now, with almost seven million global sales, Jeep continues to shatter expectations of the full-size SUV segment with the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
It’s the fifth generation of the mighty vehicle and it broke cover in its US homeland recently with news of a UK version due very soon.
In America, the new Grand Cherokee has been revealed as a seven-seater but in the UK, where there is less demand for seven-seat models, it will be available in shorter-wheelbase, five-seat configuration.
Jeep claims the latest Grand Cherokee has in excess of 110 advanced safety and driver assist systems onboard, including semi-autonomous drive modes and a surround-view camera system.
It also has the latest Uconnect technology set-up which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, an optional rear seat monitoring camera, a pitch perfect 960-Watt, 19-speaker audio system and a digital rearview mirror.
The engine choices and pricing for European-specification versions have yet to be announced with the American model powered either by a 3.6-litre V6 or 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine.
Christian Meunier, Global President of the Jeep brand, said: “When you set out to reimagine an SUV as beloved as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, building on its nearly 30-year legacy as an overachiever is paramount to every decision that is made.
“With that legacy guiding the Jeep team, the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is crafted to exceed expectations and do what no other SUV can do: deliver legendary Jeep 4×4 off-road capability blended with superior on-road manners. It is built on an all-new architecture and wrapped in a stunning new design that honours its iconic Jeep design heritage.
“The Grand Cherokee L truly stands out in its segment and continues to raise the bar in capability, performance and luxury, while also breaking new ground in versatility and functionality,” he added.
A full 4×4, the Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s alternative to the likes of the Land Rover Discovery.
And if more news were needed, then a 4xe electrified Grand Cherokee is due to go into production later in 2021.
