Audi lifts the lid on cabriolet

February 20, 2014

AUDI has raised the lid on its first compact ‘S’ soft-top in the shape of a rather stunning new 300PS A3 model.
Due to make its debut at next month’s Geneva Motor show, the fiery newcomer will hit the streets in July.
Powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, the convertible is capable of sprinting from 0-62 in just 5.4 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.
The economy isn’t too bad either with combined fuel efficiency of 39.8mpg and carbon emissions of 165g/km.
It also features Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive and S tronic transmission as standard.
Cabin noise is kept to a minimum thanks to an insulating foam layer in the roof and the top opens and closes in 18 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph.
Three roof colours are available and an active rollover system protects occupants in the event of an accident. S3 badges can be found on the front and rear of the car.
Compared with the Audi A3 Cabriolet, the body is 25mms lower due to the S Sport chassis and the large brake discs have black – or optionally red – calipers emblazoned with S3 logos.
Two passengers can fit in the rear seats and access is aided by an easy-entry feature, and those needing more luggage space can fold down the rear seat backs, creating a 245-litre capacity.
There are some stand-out ID features throughout the car. For example, the sports seats have backrests embossed with S3 logos, the upholstery is finished in Nappa leather with S embossing and contrast stitching and the leather multifunction sport steering wheel has a flat-bottomed rim and shift paddles.
Other standard features are brushed stainless-steel pedals, the aluminium door sills bear S3 logos and you also get heated front seats and Xenon plus headlights.
