Less is more at Skoda

March 16, 2015

More for less – that seems to be the aim at Skoda these days and the new Superb flagship model is a prime example of that.
For when it arrives in showrooms later this year it will carry a price-tag that is £50 lower than the current entry level car.
Buyers will be able to choose from the widest range of engine, transmission and trim level options ever offered to Superb customers as the new generation models will be up for grabs with seven engine options, plus the choice of DSG automatic and 4×4 transmissions on selected variants.
The line-up, which now starts at £18,640, comprises four petrol and three diesel engines with outputs ranging from 120PS for the entry level diesel 1.6 TDI to 280PS for the new 2.0 TSI unit.
Four trim levels – S, SE, SE L Executive and Laurin & Klement – are available, each offering higher spec and equipment than comparable models in the current line-up.
New technology encompasses the Czech brand’s Simply Clever features and includes the likes of a Virtual pedal system that opens the boot with just the wave of a foot under the rear bumper and full integration of Apple and Android smartphones via CarPlay, MirrorLink and Google Android Auto.
Safety and practicality features include blind spot detection, rear traffic alert, third-generation park assist and traffic jam assist.
All models come with alloy wheels, air-con, LED rear lights, DAB digital radio and a touchscreen infotainment system. And you even get two umbrellas, one stowed in each of the front doors – a feature only rivalled by the likes of Rolls Royce.
