Pop-up fun with latest VW California

October 8, 2024

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the UK specifications for the new California campervan, marking a fresh chapter for this iconic model.

VW California

The most versatile and innovative version yet of the brand’s most popular campervan, every aspect of the new California has been redesigned, making it smarter, more spacious and sophisticated – all while remaining true to the spirit of its iconic predecessors.

Starting from £63,376 OTR, the new California offers a choice between a turbocharged diesel and petrol engines and is available in three trims called Beach Camper, Coast and Ocean, catering to various lifestyles and travel needs.

The entry-level California Beach Camper starts at £51,700 (excluding VAT), while the top-tier California Ocean is priced at £65,880 (excluding VAT).

Once again, the new California range will be available in the iconic two-tone exterior colour scheme alongside 11 single-tone finishes. The pop-up roof is customisable in three colour options, and there are multiple alloy wheel styles available.

There’s an array of practical features, such as two sliding side doors for easy access, a redesigned kitchen, and an external folding table for outdoor dining. The interior boasts removable individual seats, allowing for flexible space management, whether for work or leisure.

Technology-wise, the California includes a five-inch touch display for climate control and ambient lighting, plus ample USB-C ports for charging devices. Built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, it features advanced driver assistance systems for added safety.

Initial powertrains include a 150PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel and a 204PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol, both with DSG automatic gearboxes. An eHybrid plug-in hybrid variant will be available soon, combining a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with an electric motor for enhanced efficiency and range.

Customers can place orders later this month, with first deliveries expected in Winter 2024.
