VW ID.3 gets the dynamic GTI treatment
September 21, 2026
The Volkswagen ID.3 is the latest model to receive the legendary ‘GTI’ makeover.

The ID.3 GTI replaces the ID.3 GTX model, which was the flagship variant in the electric hatchback range.
On the outside, the exterior uses lots of GTI make-up to differentiate it from the standard ID.3 with a red strip located above the LED lightbar, red vertical slats in the lower bumper and a front spoiler. Around the back, there is a larger roof spoiler, plus the gloss black door mirrors and chunky 20-inch wheels give it a beefier appearance.
Inside, it’s a typical Volkswagen GTI with the seats finished off in a new Superclark tartan-patterned upholstery, there’s a red strip that runs the width of the dashboard, sports bucket seats and a red 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel.
The steering wheel also features a new ‘GTI’ button, which sharpens the throttle response, steering and adjusts the car’s adaptive dampers to make it feel sportier.
Underneath, the ID.3 GTI is hooked up to a 79kWh battery pack mated to a rear-mounted electric motor to make rear-wheel drive, 322bhp and 545Nm of torque – that makes it the most powerful Volkswagen GTI yet. In terms of acceleration, the car can reach 62mph in 5.6 seconds and will go on to a top speed of 124mph.
Volkswagen claims the ID.3 GTI can travel up to 373 miles between charges and that 183kW DC rapid charging enables a 10 to 80 per cent replenishment to be completed in 29 minutes.
Prices and standard equipment for the UK market have not been revealed, but more details on the ID.3 GTI will be announced soon.
